On A Day Like Today

Autumn hiking weekend in Davos: Day 1

Saturday started with alarm ring at 4:50AM, quick wash and dress, grabbing the rucksack I prepared the evening before and taking a 5:30 train to Davos (luckily for me Basel is a small town and train station is minutes away). Last chance to enjoy autumn colors in the mountains before the skiing season kicks in! During the two days we managed to explore Parsenn and Schatzalp areas near Davos, which are excellent not just for hiking, but for biking, paragliding and winter sports, too.

Route: Davos Dorf – Davoser See – Wolfgang – Schwarzseealp – Parsennhutte – Panoramaweg – Weissfluchjoch

Trail numbers 216 – 218 – 69 – 48 – 62

Approx. 1100m cumulative elevation gain, 6-7 hours hiking time (incl. breaks)

On the way to Parsenhutte (the wooden house in the photo is not Parsenhutte, though!)

Panoramaweg – a trail connecting Parsenhutte with Mittelstation of Parsen Funicular Railway

Parsenn railway next to Parsennsee (2448m). And my first snow this year!

At the top of Weissfluhjoch autumn turned into winter…

5pm, we’re riding Parsenn funicular railway back to Davos Dorf. In the meantime the fog came in and it started snowing a little bit…
